Seneca’s Oktoberfest: A Day of Community, Culture, and Celebration

Seneca, Kansas, is buzzing with excitement as we prepare for our annual Oktoberfest on Saturday, October 12! This year promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a full day of activities that capture the spirit of our community and celebrate our rich German heritage. From a morning walk to live music and craft beer in the evening, there's something for everyone at this year’s event.

Kickstart Your Day with the Oktoberfest Volksmarch

The festivities begin bright and early at 8:00 AM with the Oktoberfest Volksmarch, starting at 5th & Main. This 5K community walk is a fantastic way to enjoy the fresh fall air and connect with friends, family, and neighbors in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. The Volksmarch isn’t a race or a pledge walk—it’s a traditional German walk meant to be enjoyed at your own pace. All participants will receive a commemorative lapel pin, and donations are welcome, with proceeds benefiting the Nemaha County Christmas Bureau. It’s a perfect way to start your day and give back to the community!

Shop Local at the Oktoberfest Craft Fair

After your morning stroll, head over to Main Street, where the Oktoberfest Craft Fair will be in full swing from 9 AM to 3 PM. Featuring a wide variety of vendors offering homemade, handmade, homegrown, and vintage items, the craft fair is the perfect place to find unique gifts or treasures for yourself. While you’re downtown, take a moment to explore Seneca’s charming shops and grab a bite at one of our local restaurants. Supporting small businesses has never been this fun!

Explore German Heritage at the Nemaha County Historical Society

One of the highlights of this year’s Oktoberfest is a special open house at the Nemaha County Historical Society from 2 PM to 4 PM. The museum will showcase newly added German heritage displays and host an engaging activity that highlights the rich cultural roots of our region. Whether you’re a history buff or simply curious about our community’s past, this is a stop you won’t want to miss.

Raise a Glass at the Beer Tasting Extravaganza

As the afternoon turns to evening, it’s time to relax and unwind at the Beer Tasting Event from 4 PM to 7 PM on Main Street. Sample a variety of craft beers from different breweries while enjoying live music by The Haymakers. Your ticket, priced at $25, includes a commemorative sample glass and ten beer samples—an excellent way to toast the day’s festivities. Tickets are online at the bottom of this post!

Test Your Strength at Seneca’s First Stein Holding Competition

Are you up for a challenge? At 5:30 PM, we’ll be hosting Seneca’s first-ever Stein Holding Competition on Main Street. Participants will put their strength and endurance to the test, holding a full beer stein at arm’s length for as long as possible. It’s free to join, with registration taking place on the day of the event, so come ready to compete and cheer on your friends!
