Tyler King Selected as North Central Missouri College's Outstanding Student

Tyler King from St. Louis, MO, has been selected as North Central Missouri College’s Outstanding Student for February. At NCMC, Tyler is studying business and pursuing an associate in arts degree with plans to graduate this year. After graduating from NCMC, Tyler plans to transfer to Southern Illinois Edwardsville University to continue to play collegiate basketball and earn his bachelor's in business.

Tyler is a dedicated athlete on the Pirates men’s basketball team, a member of Student Support Services (SSS), and actively involved with Res Life. When asked about his favorite class, Tyler said Microcomputer Applications with Instructor Sarah Bird, saying, “Mrs. Bird is a cool teacher. She is funny, I enjoy her classes, and she makes work fun.” In addition to his academic and athletic commitments, Tyler enjoys spending time with his teammates and working on his game.

Coach Jeremy Esry said, “Tyler King has been a great representative of North Central Missouri College in the classroom, community, and on the basketball court. He always has a smile on his face and a positive attitude to attack the day.”

Kristi Harris, Chief of Staff, went on to say about Tyler, “Tyler is well loved in the community. As we were doing his interview for this story at the Ketcham Center, a little girl came up and hugged him, a gentleman from the community chatted with him about his season, and another staff member stopped to talk to him; he definitely has a lot of people supporting him and the entire team.”

When asked why he chose NCMC, Tyler said, “NCMC is a great place to play basketball and help me get a start on my education. The people here are nice and caring.”

Each month, a student is nominated by a faculty or staff member to be featured as an Outstanding Student based on their dedication to educational success, attitude toward learning, and hard work in their field and activities.
